In 1971, during ‘Operation Hermit Park’, four New Zealand servicemen demonstrated outstanding gallantry in rescuing wounded Australian servicemen while under heavy and intense enemy fire. In 2022, these selfless acts of bravery have still not been recognised by the New Zealand Government. The dramatic events are told for the first time by Lt Colonel (Rtd) Norman Fry, who has tenaciously pursued justice from the New Zealand Government for over 50 years.
This book was written to ensure that the memory of the battlefield deeds of 1 Platoon, Victor 6 Company, 4RAR/NZ (ANZAC Battalion) are accurately preserved for the future. Hopefully, this story about 1 Platoon and those who served in it will also confirm that justice and fairness have not yet been fully achieved for these three men.
