Welcome to 2013. Champagne, xmas cheer and merriment aside, have you made a new years resolution to kick start your writing? If you consider the raw statistics of this new year of promise, you could have that book you’ve been putting on the backshelf for years ready to publish in the e-book marketplace for 2014.
Writing requires discipline and writing a book can be like contemplating swimming 104Km. Impossible to all but a dedicated iron man, any sane person would think. 104Km! I’ll drown!
But think about for a second. If you could manage 40 laps of a 50m pool every week, say 3 sessions of 13 to 14 laps every single week without missing a beat, that’s exactly what you will achieve.
Writing requires similar discipline. If you want to be a writer, get your e-book published and create a lifestyle and income from your writing, you need to write. Every. Single. Day.
Lets apply our swimming maths to writing. If you set your self a goal of writing 250 words, every single day, in a year you would have produced 91250 words. Now, that’s a lot of content.
That’s a lot of discipline. That’s what writing is and that discipline will create the ‘software’ you need for your e-book. Thoughts. Ideas. Stories. Writing.
As Stephen King put it: “Discipline and constant work are the whetstones upon which the dull knife of talent is honed until it becomes sharp enough, hopefully, to cut through even the toughest meat and gristle.”
